3 Singers & A Ghost at Super Bowl LII

The alleged two best teams in the NFL will battle it out for the Lombardi trophy.  But let’s be honest: shoulder pads and unmanageable oblong balls are just window dressing for the REAL show: top flight commercials and A-List acts!

Flu The Coop

The headline says “3 Singers,” but that’s looking pretty optimistic.  Pink is scheduled to sing the national anthem. But she posted to Instagram that the flu hit her and hit her hard.  And she’s totally throwing her kids under the bus, writing “..it just so happens that this chance comes when I have two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek. You can’t write this stuff I swear!”

Yesterday she tried powering through, but TMZ has sources inside rehearsals that say it doesn’t look promising.

Justin’s Ghosting Halftime

Justin kept details pretty close to the vest during his preview press concert, but TMZ did what TMZ does and scored some deets and rehearsal footage.  And despite saying there wouldn’t be any special guests, there will be a special ghost. Word is a Prince hologram will share the stage with JT.  It makes sense. Prince is from Minneapolis (where the game is being held this year) and also played Halftime in 2007. We won’t know until after if it is a touching tribute or just creepy.  Justin will have 13 minutes to wow the crowd, and has said he will play Can’t Stop the Feeling. After that expect to maybe hear one classic and a couple songs off the new album, which shot to #1 when it dropped Friday.

Also, TMZ said Thursday’s dress rehearsal was recorded, just in case Pink’s contagious.

A Beautiful Performance

Rounding out the trio of talent: Leslie Odom, Jr.  The Hamilton vet has wowed Broadway audiences and now has a chance to showcase his immense talents to a massive audience. He’s the opening act for the opening act, but definitely worth tuning in early to hear.

The Critic’s Cocktail Recommendation

For America The Beautiful: Hard Cider. It was big in Hamilton’s day.

For National Anthem: Cold eeze.  We’re pulling for ya, Pink!

For Halftime: Whatever’s still left on the bar or in the cooler at a Super Bowl party that started at 3.
